Intermodal transport, smart ICT solutions, identification of main bottlenecks for the development of the transport network. Similar topics, same challenges, different projects. ISTEN is facing the problem of connection to the hinterland this time from the freight perspective.
Led by the University Mediterranea of Reggio Calabria, Italy, ISTEN is an Interreg ADRION funded project, and includes Organizations from Italy (Institute for Transport and Logistics in Bologna, and the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea in Trieste), Slovenia (Port of Koper), Greece (Thessaloniki Port Authority and Centre for Research and Technology Hellas), Albania (Regional Council of Durres), Montenegro (Port of Bar), Serbia (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia) and Croatia (Port Authority of Šibenik-Knin County).
ISTEN’s vision is to significantly contribute towards the development of an integrated hubs network at ADRION level, by formulating the required Action Plans to address the bottlenecks experienced at both local and transnational level, and by coordinating initiatives between a number of ‘co-existing’ hubs, that link them and the resultant synergies with the rest of the territory.
During the ISTEN meeting in Koper, in May 2019, ISTEN organized a cross-fertilization session in which also Interconnect was presented by Giuseppe Luppino (common partner ITL in both projects). It was the opportunity to share information and to activate new contacts with research organizations and institutions which are facing the same problems at local or regional level.
